Kenya Airways Boosts Cargo Capacity with Second Aircraft

Kenya Airways (KQ) Expands Cargo Fleet with Arrival of Second Boeing 737-800 Freighter

On April 1st, 2024, Kenya Airways (KQ) welcomed its second freighter, a Boeing 737-800 Freighter, boosting its cargo fleet to four aircraft. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for cargo services across its global network, particularly in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The addition of these freighters aligns with Kenya Airways’ strategy to capitalize on opportunities arising from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to facilitate trade within and beyond the continent.

Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Airways, emphasized the airline’s commitment to enhancing its cargo business to meet the evolving needs of customers. The arrival of the new Boeing 737-800 Freighter marks a significant milestone in KQ Cargo’s fleet expansion plans, enabling the airline to increase capacity and frequencies to support Africa’s economic growth and connectivity.

The newly acquired aircraft, offering 20 tons of cargo capacity and a range of up to 7 hours, will be deployed on various routes including destinations such as Sharjah, Dubai World Central, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dakar, Lagos, Ndjamena, Mogadishu, Mumbai, Free Town, and Monrovia. It joins Kenya Airways’ existing cargo fleet, which includes one Boeing 737-800 and two Boeing 737-300 Freighters.
