easyJet and Airbus marked a significant milestone in their enduring partnership with the delivery of easyJet’s 400th Airbus aircraft, specifically an Airbus A321neo. The ceremony unfolded at Airbus’s manufacturing facility in Hamburg, Germany, where the newest addition to easyJet’s fleet was unveiled, featuring a distinctive livery design showcasing miniature aircraft forming the number 400.
What made the delivery flight from Hamburg-Finkenwerder to easyJet’s maintenance hangar at Berlin/Brandenburg airport even more remarkable was its use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking easyJet’s inaugural flight from Germany with a 5% SAF blend. This move underscores easyJet’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.
Over the past two decades, since receiving its first Airbus A320 family aircraft, easyJet has risen as one of the foremost operators of Airbus single-aisle aircraft globally, with a fleet exceeding 330 units in service. This achievement highlights easyJet’s dedication to operating modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, aligning with industry-wide efforts to mitigate environmental impact and promote sustainability.
David Morgan, easyJet’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed his satisfaction with the delivery of the 400th Airbus aircraft, a milestone coinciding with easyJet’s 20th anniversary of operations in Germany. He emphasized the enduring partnership between easyJet, Airbus, and CFM, noting their shared commitment to manufacturing excellence and sustainability.
Benoit de Saint Exupery, Airbus’s EVP for Sales, Commercial Aircraft, commended easyJet’s endeavors to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by adopting the latest technology aircraft. He highlighted the significance of easyJet’s reception of its 400th Airbus aircraft in just over two decades as a testament to the airline’s unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability.
The delivery ceremony coincided with easyJet’s recent confirmation of a firm order for an additional 157 A320neo family aircraft, comprising A320neo and A321neo variants. This reaffirms easyJet’s confidence in Airbus and its ongoing commitment to fleet modernization with fuel-efficient aircraft.
Renowned for operational efficiencies such as new generation engines and Sharklets, which reduce noise levels and fuel consumption, the Airbus A320neo family continues to set industry standards. Additionally, easyJet’s new aircraft will benefit from operational enhancements such as Descent Profile Optimization (DPO) and Continuous Descent Approach (CDA), further contributing to fuel savings and emissions reduction.
As easyJet advances its sustainability and operational objectives, its partnership with Airbus remains essential. The delivery of easyJet’s 400th Airbus aircraft signifies a significant milestone in this enduring collaboration, paving the way for continued innovation and environmental stewardship in the aviation sector.
