The proposal to rename Washington, DC’s primary international airport, from Washington Dulles International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport has recently gained traction, spurred by Republican politicians drafting a bill advocating for the change.
However, the likelihood of the bill successfully passing into law appears slim, according to the latest reports. Washington Dulles International Airport, named after former US Secretary of State John Foster Dulles since 1962, underwent a minor alteration to include “Washington” in 1984.
Washington, DC, boasts three airports, with Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport honoring a former US Supreme Court member and Ronald Reagan National Airport commemorating the 40th President of the USA.
Although Ronald Reagan National Airport holds the title of the busiest airport, primarily serving domestic flights and serving as a key hub for American Airlines, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport serves as a significant base for Southwest Airlines, a major player in the US low fares market. Meanwhile, Washington Dulles International Airport stands as the capital city’s principal gateway for international and long-haul flight connections, contributing substantially to its role as a global travel hub.
