In the first quarter of 2024, Baku Airport (Heydar Aliyev International Airport) in Azerbaijan experienced significant growth in passenger traffic, serving a total of over 1.464 million passengers. This represents a notable increase of 38.2% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
Throughout the first quarter, the airport facilitated a total of 12,378 flights, operated by 39 airlines, including 15 low-cost carriers. This extensive flight activity contributed to the notable rise in passenger throughput at the airport.
The vital domestic route connecting Baku and Nakhchivan witnessed robust travel, with over 144,000 passengers transported, underscoring the vigor of domestic air travel within Azerbaijan.
International passenger numbers surged by 43.5%, totaling 1.319 million. Foreign carriers played a significant role in this surge, transporting 656,000 passengers on international routes, while Azerbaijan’s national carrier AZAL served 662,000 passengers.
Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, Tbilisi, Dubai, and Moscow emerged as the most favored international destinations from Baku Airport, reflecting the diverse array of travel preferences among passengers.
Furthermore, the number of transfer passengers saw substantial growth, rising by 82.7% to surpass 72,000, indicative of Heydar Aliyev International Airport’s evolving role as a prominent regional transit hub.
