On June 1, 2024, an Aerolíneas Argentinas flight from Buenos Aires Aeroparque was diverted to nearby Ezeiza Airport shortly after takeoff. The flight, AR1638, a Boeing 737-800 bound for Neuquén, experienced a cargo hold fire indication shortly after departing.
The incident occurred as the aircraft was climbing and had just passed 10,000 feet. Upon receiving the fire warning, the flight crew immediately terminated the climb and initiated a diversion to Ezeiza Airport. The aircraft landed safely without further incident less than 20 minutes after departure. The fire indication was determined to be a false alarm, and no actual fire was present.
Flight data shows that AR1638 departed Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery Airfield (Aeroparque) at 0620 local time. Shortly after takeoff, the flight crew terminated the climb at approximately 13,000 feet and began an immediate descent for an approach to Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza Airport). Despite the fire warning, the crew did not declare a formal emergency and continued to the diversion airport under normal operating procedures. The aircraft landed at 0639 local time, just 19 minutes after takeoff.
The aircraft involved in the incident was a Boeing 737-800, registered LV-FVN, which is a 9.2-year-old narrow-body aircraft. It has been in service with Aerolíneas Argentinas since its delivery in April 2015.
