Uganda Airlines Expands African Network with New Routes in September 2024

Uganda Airlines is set to expand its African network with new routes launching in September 2024, as part of the airline’s second phase of growth. The national carrier will introduce flights from Entebbe to Abuja, Lusaka, and Harare, increasing its total destinations to 16 and enhancing intra-African connectivity.

Starting on September 12, 2024, Uganda Airlines will commence twice-weekly flights to Abuja, Nigeria, operating on Sundays and Thursdays using its flagship Airbus A330-800 aircraft. This new service complements the existing flights to Lagos, which operate on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, providing travelers with more options for reaching West Africa.

Following this, the airline will begin flights to Lusaka, Zambia, and Harare, Zimbabwe, on September 25, 2024. These Southern African destinations will be served four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—using the airline’s Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft, strengthening its presence in the southern region of the continent.

Jenifer Bamuturaki

Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, highlighting the benefits of enhanced connectivity and increased travel options for passengers. “These new routes not only enhance Uganda’s connectivity but also offer more choices and convenience to our valued customers,” Bamuturaki stated. She added that this expansion marks the second phase of the airline’s network growth strategy, paving the way for future expansion into Europe and Asia.

With these new services, Uganda Airlines will offer a total of 16 destinations, including existing routes to Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam, Dubai, Johannesburg, Juba, Kilimanjaro, Kinshasa, Lagos, Mogadishu, Mombasa, Mumbai, Nairobi, and Zanzibar. This strategic expansion is designed to boost intra-African travel, facilitating business, trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges across the continent.

Founded in 2019, Uganda Airlines has quickly emerged as a significant player in African aviation, offering both passenger and cargo services. The airline operates a modern fleet, including two Airbus A330-800neo aircraft for long-haul flights and four Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft for regional routes. Notably, Uganda Airlines has received the “World’s Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award” from Ch-Aviation for five consecutive years, from 2020 to 2024, underscoring its commitment to providing passengers with state-of-the-art technology and comfort.

Travelers can book flights for these new routes through travel agents, Uganda Airlines ticketing offices, or the airline’s app and website. This expansion is expected to provide unprecedented convenience for travelers, opening new avenues for cross-border collaboration and connectivity across Africa.
