ACT Airlines Freighter Returns to Hong Kong Due to Wing Flap Issue

On July 28, 2024, an ACT Airlines Boeing 747-400F, operating a freighter service to Dubai on behalf of Emirates as flight EK9887, made a precautionary return to Hong Kong due to a wing flap issue. The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft departed from Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok International Airport (HKG).

The aircraft, registered as TC-ACF, encountered a problem with its wing flaps during the climb to its cruising altitude. As a result, the flight crew terminated the climb at flight level FL190 (19,000 feet) and initiated troubleshooting procedures. The aircraft entered a holding pattern to dump fuel before returning to HKG, where it landed without further incident approximately two hours after departure.

Flight EK9887 had a delayed departure from Hong Kong, taking off at 14:13 local time instead of the scheduled 10:15. The aircraft, a 31.2-year-old converted freighter, safely returned to the origin airport, and no injuries or further complications were reported.
